I want to share something that was one of the biggest revelations to me this year.
For a while, I was eating healthy, well, so I thought at least.
I cooked at home. I paid attention to ingredients. Choose natural products.
And yet there was constantly this craving for sweet things that was ruining my progress.
Not just occasionally, but daily.
Like my body was always asking for something sweet… chocolate to be specific.
And the worst part was how it played out.
I would eat well all day, then give in to sugar…
So even though I was “eating healthy,” it felt like progress kept canceling itself out.
At the same time, my stomach was often bloated,
and my skin was still inflamed and breaking out.
That’s when it became clear:
something was missing.
What I changed
I came across research about protein and fiber and how they affect blood sugar, cravings, inflammation, and gut health.
So instead of cutting things out, I tried something different.
I focused on getting enough protein and adding more fiber-rich foods to my meals.
That was it. Just paying attention to whether my meals actually had enough of those two things.
What I noticed
This is the part that really shocked me.
Every time I got close to the amount of protein my body actually needs in a day…
My sugar cravings were significantly lower.
Some days, they were barely there at all.
I also stopped craving greasy foods,
which I hadn’t even noticed before, because it used to feel so normal.
And the biggest change?
My skin got so much better.
I also noticed fewer energy crashes and more stable energy through the day, and better sleep.
Nothing extreme, but my body just started functioning better.
What I started eating more of
Once I stopped overthinking it, this part was actually simple.
I just added more foods that are naturally high in protein and fiber, like:
lentils, chickpeas, beans
tofu
quinoa
chia, flax, hemp, and pumpkin seeds
oats (gluten-free if needed)
eggs, fish, chicken, tuna
Skyr yogurt or kefir (if you tolerate dairy)
lots of vegetables (all vegetables have fiber, so that one is easy!)
No food had to be perfect.
I just needed enough of the building material for my body to function properly.
My simple fix on “off” days
On days when I realize I didn’t eat much protein, I don’t stress about it.
I just make a quick smoothie: 1 scoop of vanilla protein, a handful of oats, a banana, and water or dairy-free milk. And that right there is a good 30g of protein!
That alone makes a huge difference.
And if you're not the biggest fan of smoothies, don’t worry.. There are plenty of fun ways to get your daily protein and fiber in.
For example, this beautiful high-protein brownie (21 g per portion!) from our our new high-protein and fiber recipe collection
If your goals for the new year are…
