I want to share something that might help you out there, struggling with bloating.
For the past two weeks, I’ve been taking a spoonful of psyllium husk every single day. Not in a recipe. Just a spoonful, mixed into water, every afternoon.
I have to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. I’ve tried things before.
But my digestion has genuinely improved. The bloating I used to feel in the evenings is noticeably less. Even my biggest problem zone- my stomach- started to look and feel leaner!
Here’s why it works:
Psyllium husk is one of the most powerful natural sources of soluble fibre there is. It absorbs water in your gut, slows digestion in the best possible way, feeds the beneficial bacteria in your microbiome, and helps calm the kind of irregular, unpredictable digestion that so many of us quietly deal with every day.
But I’ll be honest, it quickly becomes a chore. Mixed into water, psyllium husk is not exactly a pleasure to drink. The taste isn’t for everyone. And I knew that if it felt like medicine, I’d eventually stop.
So I started looking at what I could make that included it instead.
It happens to be that psyllium husk is the key ingredient in almost every loaf of gluten-free sourdough - it’s what gives it real structure, proper crust, and the texture you stopped expecting from gluten-free bread. That felt like a very good reason to finally give sourdough a go!
Every time you bake a loaf, you’re getting all the gut benefits - the soluble fibre, the microbiome support, the reduced bloating - without it feeling like a supplement.
It just feels like making bread.
And that shift from “this is good for me” to “this is something I actually crave to eat” is everything. Because psychologically speaking, if we enjoy it, we're far more likely to stick with it.
If you’ve been missing bread, and missing a gut that actually cooperates, this is a genuinely lovely place to start.
