A small thing about protein that might help you relook at its importance.
Most people think of protein as something for muscles.
But one of its most immediate roles is something you feel every day.
It helps stabilize blood sugar after meals. When a meal or snack includes enough protein, glucose enters your bloodstream more gradually. That means fewer spikes… and fewer crashes after and less of that “I need something sweet right now” feeling later.
Protein triggers hormones like peptide YY and GLP-1, which help signal fullness to your brain.
In simple terms, you feel satisfied sooner… and stay that way longer.
And one of the most overlooked, lesser-known benefits:
You do burn more calories digesting protein. This is called the thermic effect of food (TEF).
Protein: ~20–30% of its calories are used during digestion
Carbs: ~5–10%
Fat: ~0–3%
So if you eat 100 calories of protein, your body might use 20–30 of those calories just to process it.
What’s the actual benefit?
It’s not a magic fat-loss hack, but it does help in a few real ways:
1. Slightly higher daily calorie burn
Over the course of a day, higher protein intake can modestly increase how many calories you burn. It’s not huge, but it adds up over time.
2. More efficient metabolism overall
Your body works harder to break protein down into amino acids, which supports muscle repair and other functions.
Don’t get me wrong, your body still needs fats and carbohydrates to function properly, so it’s not about replacing everything with protein but simply adding a good amount to your diet, whether you’re active or not.
This is why adding protein to something like dessert completely changes how you feel after eating it.
Same indulgence.
Different outcome.
You’re not chasing another snack 30 minutes later.
You actually feel done.

Protein Tiramisu By Bloom

Tiramisu started in Italy as a simple layered dessert - espresso-soaked biscuits, cream, and cocoa, created to feel both comforting and energizing.
This version keeps that foundation but shifts the focus toward texture and nutrition.
You still get those delicate, coffee-soaked layers that turn soft and almost melt as you dig in.
The cream, however, feels a little different - in a good way. Instead of being overly heavy, it’s made with protein-rich ingredients like strained yogurt or ricotta, giving it a smooth, airy consistency that still feels rich but more balanced.
The cocoa on top adds that light bitterness, cutting through the creaminess and bringing everything together in each bite.
Nutritionally, it offers more than the classic - you’re getting a good amount of protein with a lighter overall feel, making it more satisfying without being too heavy.
So when you take that first spoonful, ask yourself… is this dessert, or is this something better?
